Let's create a community where we can talk about the unexpected parts of work and life – the real questions we have, the thoughts we've never admitted to anyone, and how passion and work mix (or don't).

If you’re tired of superficial advice about work, we hear you! We are interested in going deeper, into the hard parts of work (like staying motivated over the long haul, or what to do when following your passion isn’t an option). And we need your help in finding the topics you care about most.

Please answer any or all of the questions below. All responses are anonymous and optional – but please be as specific as possible. We want to hear from you!

What’s a work worry that keeps you up at night? Please be specific.

(Examples of a good response: “I worry about how my performance will impact my clients' lives. Or, I worry about whether it will be robots, a part-time replacement, a change in educational requirements, a new boss or department that might eliminate my position.”)

Tell us about a recent situation you faced when it comes to work and relationships that made you realize something had to change. It could be with your partner, a friend, or relative. What happened? What made it stand out? Tell us a story.

(Example of a good response: “I was ready for a career change and got buy-in from my partner, updated my credentials and resume, got a headhunter, and interviewed at a brand new company that was the perfect fit. I landed the job and called my partner to share the news. Everything went well until I got to the new salary. My partner just laughed and said that we couldn’t afford that much of a pay cut. I really wanted this job. It made me realize that something had to change. I could pass up the opportunity and find another. Or, we could change where and how we lived. Or, I could change partners.”)

If someone saw how you work, what would ASTONISH them? Please be specific.

(Example of a good response: “I spend over 60 hours a week at work because I like how my boss and colleagues remember me for it, it makes me feel like I’m showing leadership skills, and the extra time lets me observe and navigate office politics. I have to downplay this when I tell my parents about work, because they’ll criticize me and say I’ll never find a partner if I’m always working.)

How would you describe your work to a Kindergarten career day audience? What do you do an a daily basis? What successes and failures got you to this part of your professional life? Would you want them to have your job when they get older? How do you feel about that? (Remember, all answers are anonymous.)
